How Can I Market My Candy?
By b2b on February 8th, 2010I make a great family recipe of rocky road. Everyone says to market it, but I don’t know where to start. My major is business, so of course I have already identified procurement cost and pricing per pound, but now what?
Call a reporter at the local newspaper and ask if she will interview you. If that works, offer to appear on the tv station’s morning show at 6am. Tell them you will bring samples..
Well having a group of people that like your candy is important, but you have to built a larger customer base than your friends and family. You need to establish a means of producing your candy to larger quantities of people, possibly a restaurant or gift shop could sell your candy. Additionally other than cost to produce, you need to determine how much you can make before you need to acquire additional means. Be careful as if you create to much demand, and can not produce, it will almost certainly ruin business.
I would suggest finding a restaurant, gift shop or other store to sell your candy for you. Assuming it goes well, have additional stores also sell your candy. As things progress make an effort to present your product more professionally, with ingredients, company name, contact information, etc. As you build a customer base demand will increase.
Also if you are already able to produce larger quantities, then finding a distributor could possibly be the next step, local grocery stores, QVC, Gift catalogues, food distributors (sysco, us foods, preformance food group). Mail order is also popular as you could possibly find a catalogue to get involved with. Make sure your cost are secured before entering into any contract for predetermined prices.
You can go to local store i.e. candy shops and give them free samples to try just a piece or two.
then tell them about your product, as far as how much you will charge etc.
Or you can get a fairly inexpensive web site or even free, get some professional photos of your candies done, get a logo or a name and then start selling, maybe even give a free sample if you get a request, or give some to friends and have them “write a review” of your candy.
If I can be of any more help let me know, I have been doing marketing for 6 years now, (self taught) for my husbands photography company, I now run a very successful band management business.
You can e-mail me if you wish, I also design logos free to a good cause, and I LOVE candy!!!

I would think Google Adwords would be the best place to start your marketing for the candy. You need to know what you are doing when you market with Adword so if you need some help check out my source below.
